Some decoration tricks to enlarge spaces

If we are not lucky enough to live in a house with large spaces, we must be clear that we need to optimize what we have, and as the saying goes, ‘size matters,’ we must take into account some things to decorate small spaces in order not to feel overwhelmed by the furniture and to create a sense of spaciousness. Today at Gumper, we want to share these tricks that can help you bring life to your living room.

The first thing to consider is color; we cannot afford to use overly strong colors if we want the space to appear larger. On the contrary, we should opt for neutral colors or pastel shades and complement them with matching decor in the textiles we include: curtains, sofa, cushions…

A very simple trick is the use of mirrors, as they create a sense of depth in small rooms. Ideally, place a large one on a wall that doesn’t have many elements so that it reflects light and gives us that feeling of space.

Although it may seem obvious, the choice of furniture is equally important, as we cannot have any particularly large piece that ‘eats up’ the space. Instead, we should opt for light-colored furniture (again referring to the color theme that is important for the room to be bright) and in this case, quality over quantity, few but well-chosen. We can take advantage of the walls to put up shelves or hanging elements, but without overcrowding the space.

Curtains also play a fundamental role in decorating; in this case, and as we have been pointing out, they should be in light shades and lightweight fabrics, which will provide brightness and clarity.

It should be noted that the decoration in this case should be minimal, as what we are trying to avoid is feeling cramped in the room. So just as we pointed out with the furniture, few but well-chosen pieces, simple paintings, and tall vases.

In short, choosing furniture and decor very carefully, light shades, and common sense will make our small space look spacious, warm, and bright.
